Our Projects
Primary Care at Surmang
Surmang Foundation's Dharma Sagara Clinic has been in existence since 1992 and has provided free primary care to over 120,000 ultra-poor in the past 10 years.
Comic book story of Surmang Foundation
This comic book was developed to introduce our work to the International Baccalaureate (IB) students in Beijing who have to complete a project on Community Action and Service (CAS) as a requirement for graduation.
Public School Health Promotion
The 2 typical public schools near the clinic need our help. These children can be shown basic hygiene. At the same time we cannot ignore the reality that (until recently) the windows have no glass, the floors mud, the chairstree stumps, and no toilets, no football pitch, no basketball courts. There are also about 12 children who basically don't have enough food to eat.
Health Education Textbook and Coloring Book
To create relevant, vernacular content we put togethera textbook on personal hygiene and a coloring book taken from the same materials. Most of these children have never seen a coloring book before.
Training Community Health Workers
Surmang Foundation has trained over 40 Community Health Workers (CHWs) since 2005. These women are arms, legs, ears and eyes of the clinic. Their duties are: 1) provide health education in the villages and nomadic encampments, 2) check on pregnancies and newborns and refer to the clinic, 3) assist in birth, 4) provide feedback to the clinic.
Regional Health Center
The Surmang Clinic is a regional health center that services an area 250 km in diameter. We will develop this center as a prototype of rural health for all the ultra-poor regions of China and beyond.
Together with amara It will provide increased ocal medical capacity with remote diagnosis, staff housing, and a rural training center leveraging our IT capacity to provide distance medical education.
